Nineteen-year-old Alaysa wants what any other girl wants: to survive college and fall in love. Living with a heart condition that causes blackouts, Alaysa cannot speak in front of groups of people without passing out, especially the bullies at college that blame her for surviving the forest fire that destroyed half their town. The second is more difficult until she meets Janek, from another world, who convinces her she can help him save his world from a deadly plague. Alaysa must survive several tests meant for her to harness the power of the Lightfire, a star that can destroy the plague. Unfortunately, from a single accidental touch, Janek and Alaysa create an illegal wild bond that enhances their feelings and, also, lets them heal each other’s wounds, but if ever broken by death, means immediate death for the other. Unaware of the nature of the bond, Alaysa believes she has finally fallen in love.
Janek has an expiry date. As the second-in-line to the throne, his world’s traditions enforce the law of only one heir, and with his older brother poised to become King in a less than a year, Janek will be put to death to stop any attempt to seize the throne. Now that he has found the one person who can save his land, Janek is torn between dying for his kingdom or his love for Alaysa not knowing if their love is manipulated by the bond or truly real.
